Capital City Hosts the Inaugural Carryout Classic, Celebrating DC's Carryout Culture

Capital City Mambo Sauce proudly hosted the Inaugural Carryout Classic Wing Eating Competition at the 34th Annual Giant BBQ Battle, bringing Washington, DC's iconic carryout culture to center stage.

Created to celebrate one of the city's most beloved food traditions, the Carryout Classic transformed the Kingsford Great American Grilling Stage into an unforgettable hometown showdown. Hosted by Kyle on the Mic with music from DJ Heat, the event was packed with nonstop energy from start to finish. Fans gathered around the stage as six competitors went head-to-head in a five-minute battle to see who could eat the most wings. Every countdown, every wing, and every bite had the crowd on their feet, cheering competitors all the way to the finish.

Beyond the competition, attendees enjoyed free Capital City Mambo Sauce giveaways, T-shirt tosses, crowd prizes, and plenty of opportunities to celebrate the flavor and culture that make DC carryout so iconic. It was more than a contest. It was a celebration of community, hometown pride, and the sauce that has been bringing people together for generations.

When the competition came to a close, Russell Meyor made Carryout Classic history by becoming the first-ever King of the Carryout, setting the event record after devouring 15 wings in five minutes.

Capital City extends its sincere thanks to our partners at Giant BBQ Battle, Giant Foods, Perdue Chicken, Art To Go-Go and everyone who helped make the inaugural Carryout Classic possible. From our event partners to the competitors, volunteers, and every supporter who showed up ready to bring the energy, thank you for making our first Carryout Classic one to remember.

The first Carryout Classic is officially in the books, but this is just the beginning. If you missed it this year, don't make the same mistake twice.
